Capturing the Beauty of Childhood

Life moves fast. One minute you’re celebrating those first independent steps, and the next, you’re sending them off to their first day of school. Children change in the blink of an eye, and their unique personalities deserve to be documented.

My photoshoots for children are all about freezing a genuine moment in time, whether that’s capturing their wild, unscripted laughter as they run through an open field, or guiding them into a delicate pose that highlights their natural character and thoughtful expression. It’s about preserving the wonder of childhood, their curiosity, and their unique personalities. It’s a way to hold onto this exact chapter of their lives, giving you a beautiful window back to who they were at this very age.

Let’s be honest...

Parents often hesitate to book a dedicated photoshoot because they worry their child won’t "behave," won't sit still, or will refuse to smile for a stranger. Let me take that weight off your shoulders right now. I don’t expect perfection, and I don't need them to be on their best behaviour.

My sessions are entirely child-led, relaxed, and paced around your little one. If they need to run around, take a snack break, or display some attitude we embrace it. Stepping away from the pressure of a traditional commercial studio gives your child the space to relax, play, and just feel safe. These photos serve as a time capsule of who they are right now, and will become treasured heirlooms you’ll look back on long after they’ve grown.

Outdoor Children's Photoshoot in the West Midlands

If your child is happiest when they are moving, exploring, and breathing fresh air, an outdoor session is the perfect fit. Instead of forcing them to sit still, these sessions are built entirely around action, play, and natural curiosity. We will head out to a beautiful local spot where they can let their imagination run wild. I’ll gently guide them into the best light and keep them engaged with fun, interactive directions. You can expect them to interact with the natural world around them, by picking wildflowers, running through open spaces, and sharing plenty of genuine laughs. It’s a high-energy, joyful experience where your kids can simply be themselves, allowing me to capture their most authentic, wild expressions against a stunning natural backdrop.

In-Home Children's Photoshoots in the West Midlands

There is nothing quite like the comfort of your own home, which is why I bring a high-end portrait experience right to your doorstep. This session is designed for children above the age of 6 months or from when they can safely sit on their own unaided.

To achieve a striking, sophisticated look without the hassle of traveling to a commercial studio, I bring my professional mobile equipment and a fine art textured backdrop directly into your living room. By pairing this timeless backdrop with masterfully shaped artistic lighting, we can achieve a refined, painterly fine-art aesthetic in the place where your child feels safest.

Our time together is spent capturing your child’s genuine character, whether it's the relaxed expressions, thoughtful gaze, or laughing smiles. The true transformation, however, takes place after the shoot. I individually hand-edit every single image, utilising sophisticated techniques to meticulously refine every detail and elevate the portrait into a masterful work of art. The result is a collection of striking, classical portraits that carry the depth of a fine art painting, designed to hold pride of place on your family's walls.

The True Value of a Photograph

As a photographer, I have the incredible privilege of watching children grow up through the images I take. I am so grateful to have so many repeat families who trust me to document their journey year after year, allowing me to watch their children change and grow with every single session. It truly is an honour. You don’t fully realise just how fast time moves until you look back at those photos side by side, and that is exactly when you see the true value of what we’re capturing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do the photoshoots take place?

The sessions can take place outdoors in natural locations, or at home using my portable studio setup. Outdoor settings are a popular choice for their natural light and relaxed feel, while at-home sessions offer a more controlled, clean, and timeless look, with carefully styled lighting and backdrops. We’ll decide together on a location that best suits your family and your vision.

How long does a session last?

Sessions usually last around 1-2 hours. This allows time for everyone to settle, relax, and enjoy the experience without feeling rushed.

What should my children wear?

Clothing that complements my outdoor style tends to be soft, neutral, and earthy tones; think creams, beiges, browns, greens, and warm oranges that reflect the natural surroundings. For at-home studio sessions, it’s best to coordinate your outfits with your chosen backdrop colour to create a cohesive look. I'll send you my styling guide beforehand, and we can have a chat to finalise any decisions.

Do you pose the children during the session?

There’s no need to worry about perfect behavior or forced smiles here. I use gentle, playful guidance to keep things moving naturally, turning the shoot into a fun experience rather than a strict photo session. The focus is entirely on real connection, spontaneous interactions, and capturing your children exactly as they are in this beautiful moment.

What if my children don’t cooperate?

That’s completely okay! Children are meant to move, play, and be themselves. Some of the most beautiful images come from the in-between moments, rather than posed ones. I will always adapt to your child's mood or personality, whether I am matching their fast paced energy or taking a calmer and more gentle approach. With plenty of experience working with children, I’m confident in creating a relaxed and enjoyable experience for everyone. If things really don’t go to plan, I’m always happy to offer a reschedule, although this very rarely happens.

What should we bring to the photoshoot outdoors?

To keep the kids happy and comfortable, please feel free to bring drinks, non-messy snacks, and a favourite comfort item for the little ones. As we'll be outdoors, I also highly recommend packing wet wipes, a change of clothes, and extra layers or blankets. If needed, you can always wear comfortable walking shoes for moving between spots and swap into your session shoes right before we start shooting.

What is the best time of day for a photoshoot?

Your children’s happiness is a priority so that everyone is relaxed, and enjoying the experience. I’ll usually ask you about when they’re likely to be at their best, and for young children, after naps or food makes all the difference. If outdoors, daylight is also an important factor to consider as depending on the time of year, this can make a huge difference to your images. Often the most flattering light is later in the day, with that soft, golden evening glow. Harsh midday sun in the height of summer isn’t usually very forgiving, so I tend to avoid it where possible. If we’re shooting at your home, we’ve got much more flexibility with timing. I’ll always have a chat with you before booking to work out what suits your family best.

What if the weather is bad on the day?

Ah yes, good old British weather. Something we all love to talk about (and definitely love to complain about). If the conditions aren’t suitable for an outdoor shoot, we can simply reschedule or switch to an alternative location. I always monitor the forecast closely, and will keep you updated if any changes are needed.

Alternatively, I’m also happy to embrace the rain, with wellies, umbrellas, and plenty of puddle splashing, for a fun in the mud session if that’s something you would like.

Do you retouch the images?

Yes, every image you receive is carefully edited in my signature style to create a warm, timeless and cohesive gallery. For children's sessions, I take a refined approach to editing. My aim is always to create images that feel natural and true to the moment, while also looking beautifully finished and polished.

When will I receive my photos?

Your private online gallery will be delivered within 1–2 weeks. You’ll then be able to view your beautifully edited images, and select your favourites.

What if I fall in love with more images than my package includes?

Don't worry, most people do! Once you’ve seen your gallery, you’ll have the option to upgrade or purchase additional images if you’d like more.
