Because They’re Family too

Investing in a professional photoshoot for your pets is about freezing a moment in time with a family member whose lifespan is heartbreakingly shorter than our own. Our pets bring an unparalleled joy to our lives, yet they age and change far too quickly, leaving us wishing we could preserve their unique quirks forever. A dedicated session captures exactly who they are. The knowing look in their eyes, the classic head tilts, and the vibrant personality that fills your home. Making everyday moments into gallery-worthy art. Long after they have left their paw prints on your heart, these masterfully crafted portraits become priceless heirlooms, ensuring you never forget the beautiful bond you shared.
"They are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole."
Outdoor Dog Photoshoots in the West Midlands
If your best friend loves open space, an outdoor session is the perfect fit. The freedom, scents, and textures of nature naturally bring out their genuine joy and curiosity.
We will head to a local woodland trail or meadow during golden hour. This is the magical time just before sunset when the light is warm and soft, and it's cool enough on the hotter days. This session uses the natural landscape, open skies, and trees to frame your pet as they explore with total confidence.
You can expect games of fetch, dipping into streams, and lots of fuss. It is a high-energy adventure that captures your pet’s happiest, most authentic self against a stunning natural backdrop.

Your Worries Answered
Over my many years of capturing pets and their people, I have heard just about every concern under the sun. It is incredibly common to have a few questions or minor worries floating around your head before a session. In my experience, these are the four things pet owners wonder about the most, and exactly why you don’t need to worry about any of them:
- My pet won’t sit still or look at the camera: That is completely fine and honestly, expected! I never expect your pet to behave like a perfect studio model. Whether they are doing high-speed zoomies outdoors or refusing to sit on my in-home backdrop, my commercial studio training means I am incredibly fast on the shutter. We will use treats, favorite toys, and plenty of patience to capture those fleeting, perfect moments without any stress.
- My dog has to stay on a lead outdoors: Safety always comes first, and a lead is absolutely no problem. Many of the outdoor portraits you see in my portfolio were actually taken with the dog on a lead. I use specialized digital editing techniques afterward to completely remove the lead from the final images, leaving you with a seamless, beautiful portrait of your dog exploring in nature.

- My pet is incredibly nervous or easily spooked: This is exactly why I offer both in-home and outdoor sessions, tailored completely to what makes your pet happiest. By bringing my professional lighting and fine-art setup directly to your living room, your pet stays in the environment where they feel safest and most confident. If they prefer the open air, we can head outdoors to a quiet trail where they can burn off energy and explore naturally. Whichever we choose, we will take things incredibly slow, letting them sniff the equipment, explore the surroundings, and get used to my presence before we ever take a photo. If they need a break for a cuddle, a sniff, or a treat, we pause. Their comfort and safety are my top priorities.
- What if my pet makes a mess during an in-home shoot?: Please don’t worry about muddy paws, accidents, or shed fur, I have seen it all! This is real life, and pets will be pets. My equipment is durable, my backdrops are cleanable, and I build plenty of time into the session so we can handle any little clean-ups calmly and without any rush.
“Gemma did the impossible. We have never been able to take a good photo of our dog Albert, because he just moves so fast, but it was no issue for Gemma. She captured him exactly true to his personality. Thank you so much! ”

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a session last?
Sessions usually last around 1 hour. This allows plenty of time for your pet to settle, sniff the equipment, and get completely comfortable with me before we start, ensuring a relaxed and entirely stress-free experience.
Can I be in the photos with my pet?
These sessions are specifically tailored for pets only. However, if you would love to jump in for a few portraits together to capture your bond, you are more than welcome to add this to your session for a small fee of £15 per person.
What should we bring to the photoshoot outdoors?
Bring a generous supply of their favourite treats cut into bite-sized pieces along with some water. Their favourite squeaker or ball will help me capture those alert, curious expressions. A quick brush right before we start will keep their coat looking its best, and a towel is always handy for outdoor sessions. Lastly, for in-home sessions, a familiar blanket can give a nervous pet a comforting, safe spot to settle on while they get used to the studio setup.
What is the best time of day for a photoshoot?
For outdoor sessions, the absolute best time is golden hour, just before sunset or right after sunrise. Not only does this give your portraits that gorgeous, soft, magical glow, but during the hot summer months, it ensures the temperature has dropped significantly so your pet stays cool, comfortable, and completely safe from overheating.
What if the weather is bad on the day?
Ah yes, good old British weather. Something we all love to talk about (and definitely love to complain about). If the conditions aren’t suitable for an outdoor shoot, we can simply reschedule for the next available date. I always monitor the forecast closely and will keep you updated if we need to adjust our plans. Alternatively, if you have a water loving pup, we can absolutely embrace the elements! With wellies, towels, and plenty of puddle splashing, we can turn it into a fun, muddy adventure session instead provided you don't mind a wet dog in the car afterward!
Do you retouch the images?
Yes, every image you receive is carefully edited in my signature style to create a warm, timeless, and cohesive gallery. For pet sessions, I take a highly detailed approach to editing. My aim is always to create images that feel natural and true to your pet’s personality, while also looking beautifully finished, polished, and fine-art quality.
When will I receive my photos?
Your private online gallery will be delivered within 1–2 weeks. You’ll then be able to view your beautifully edited images, and select your favourites.
What if I fall in love with more images than my package includes?
Don't worry, most people do! Once you’ve seen your gallery, you’ll have the option to upgrade or purchase additional images if you’d like more.
