Capturing the Beautiful Story of Your Family
Life moves fast. One minute you’re rocking a newborn to sleep, and the next, you’re chasing a toddler or helping a teenager pack for college. My family photoshoots aren't just about getting everyone to look at the camera and smile at the same time, it’s about freezing a real moment in time, so you can look back and remember exactly how it felt to be a family in this very chapter.
Let’s be honest...
In most family photos, one parent is always missing because they’re the one holding the phone. A dedicated family photoshoot gets everyone in the frame. Beyond that, it’s a rare chance to step out of the daily grind, slow down, and just play, hug, and laugh together. These images become your family’s visual legacy, heirlooms that your kids will look back on with their own children one day.
Outdoor Sessions in the West Midlands
If your family is happiest when you’re moving, exploring, and breathing fresh air, an outdoor session is the perfect fit.
Rather than making your kids sit still and smile on command, I design these sessions around action, play, and genuine connection.
We will head out to a beautiful local park, an open field right around the "golden hour", that magical time just before sunset when the light is warm and dreamy. I’ll guide you into beautiful pockets of light and give you fun, interactive prompts rather than stiff poses.
You can expect to play tag, hunt for cool rocks, give airplane rides, and share plenty of genuine laughs. It’s a high-energy, joyful experience where your kids can simply be kids, allowing me to capture their wildest, most authentic expressions against a stunning natural backdrop.
In-Home Sessions in the West Midlands
There is nothing quite like the comfort of your own home, which is why I bring the entire experience right to your doorstep. For families who love a relaxed, documentary style, we can focus on your natural environment, capturing sweet, unscripted moments like cuddling on the living room sofa, playing in the playroom, or laughing together on the porch.
However, if you are looking for a more polished, high-end look without the hassle of traveling to a commercial space, I also offer the option to set up my portable professional studio right in your living room. With artistic lighting and clean backdrops, we can achieve a refined, studio aesthetic in the comfort of your own home.
This setup is particularly popular for my signature generation photo; a stunning, timeless portrait that beautifully captures the legacy of grandparents, parents, and children all together in one elegant frame.
Whether you want raw, candid storytelling or a striking, sophisticated family portrait, we can create it all without you ever having to leave the house.
Let me tell you a story about a toddler
He refused to go anywhere without his tattered and much adored bunny teddy
One of the ears was completely missing, the fur was rubbed smooth from years of love, and his parents tried everything to coax it out of his arms, worried it would 'ruin' the pictures.
However, watching him fiercely tuck that bunny under his arm and proudly stomp through the grass, I knew that teddy was the only thing that mattered.
One day, that bunny will be sitting quietly on a shelf, long outgrown. And that’s when those photos will mean everything.
More than any perfectly coordinated wardrobe or stiff smile, it’s the quirky, fleeting details that hold the real magic. For me, family photography shouldn't be about perfection. It should be personal, intimate, and true to you; carefully crafted to look beautiful on your walls, and filled with the memories of this beautiful today.
“If you want stiff, awkward family photos where everyone has forced smiles, look elsewhere! Our session was full of piggyback rides, racing through the grass, and genuine giggles. Gemma made the whole experience so effortless and fun. The kids are already asking when we can do it again!”

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do family sessions take place?
The sessions can take place outdoors in natural locations, or at home using my portable studio setup. Outdoor settings are a popular choice for their natural light and relaxed feel, while at-home sessions offer a more controlled, clean, and timeless look, with carefully styled lighting and backdrops. We’ll decide together on a location that best suits your family and your vision.
How long does a session last?
Sessions usually last around 1-2 hours. This allows time for everyone to settle, relax, and enjoy the experience without feeling rushed.
What should we wear for our family session?
Clothing that complements my outdoor style tends to be soft, neutral, and earthy tones; think creams, beiges, browns, greens, and warm oranges that reflect the natural surroundings. For at-home studio sessions, it’s best to coordinate your outfits with your chosen backdrop colour to create a cohesive look. I'll send you my styling guide beforehand, and we can have a chat to finalise any decisions.
Do you pose us during the session?
I gently guide you throughout the shoot to create natural, flattering compositions, but nothing feels forced or overly posed. The focus is on connection, interaction, and real moments between you all.
What if my children don’t cooperate?
That’s completely okay! Children are meant to move, play, and be themselves. Some of the most beautiful images come from the in-between moments, rather than posed ones. I will always adapt to your child's mood or personality, whether I am matching their fast paced energy or taking a calmer and more gentle approach. With plenty of experience working with children, I’m confident in creating a relaxed and enjoyable experience for everyone. If things really don’t go to plan, I’m always happy to offer a reschedule, although this very rarely happens.
What should we bring to the photoshoot outdoors?
I would always recommend bringing water, any snacks your children might need, and anything your little ones find comforting such as a favourite toy or comfort item. Depending on the weather, it’s also a good idea to bring jackets, or blankets so we can keep everyone warm and comfortable throughout the session. It can be fun to bring an activity to do as a family during your session. Anything you bring with you, such as bags, coats, or personal items are usually be kept nearby at the shooting location so they’re easy to access throughout the session. I’ll help guide you on where to place everything so it stays out of the way of the photos, but still within reach when needed. For added peace of mind, I always encourage keeping valuables to a minimum, just bringing the essentials so you can fully relax and enjoy the experience.
What is the best time of day for a photoshoot?
Your children’s happiness is a priority so that everyone is relaxed, and enjoying the experience. I’ll usually ask you about when they’re likely to be at their best, and for young children, after naps or food makes all the difference. If outdoors, daylight is also an important factor to consider as depending on the time of year, this can make a huge difference to your images. Often the most flattering light is later in the day, with that soft, golden evening glow. Harsh midday sun in the height of summer isn’t usually very forgiving, so I tend to avoid it where possible. If we’re shooting at your home, we’ve got much more flexibility with timing. I’ll always have a chat with you before booking to work out what suits your family best.
What if the weather is bad on the day?
Ah yes, good old British weather. Something we all love to talk about (and definitely love to complain about). If the conditions aren’t suitable for an outdoor shoot, we can simply reschedule or switch to an alternative location. I always monitor the forecast closely, and will keep you updated if any changes are needed.
Alternatively, I’m also happy to embrace the rain, with wellies, umbrellas, and plenty of puddle splashing, for a fun in the mud session if that’s something you would like.
Do you retouch the images?
Yes, every image you receive is carefully edited in my signature style to create a warm, timeless and cohesive gallery. For family sessions, I take a refined approach to editing. My aim is always to create images that feel natural and true to the moment, while also looking beautifully finished and polished. If there’s anything you feel self-conscious about, you’re always welcome to let me know. I want you to feel completely comfortable and love your final images.
When will I receive my photos?
Your private online gallery will be delivered within 1–2 weeks. You’ll then be able to view your beautifully edited images, and select your favourites.
What if I fall in love with more images than my package includes?
Don't worry, most people do! Once you’ve seen your gallery, you’ll have the option to upgrade or purchase additional images if you’d like more.
